08 Jul BPU’s Maier Presented Ideas for a Sustainable Water Supply
Tim Maier, Board of Public Utilities General Manager, spoke to McPherson County businesses about the declining water supply. While McPherson does not have an immediate problem, the BPU recognizes a new water source needs to be developed for long-term growth.
The most attractive option to the BPU is a well field located approximately 18 miles south of McPherson. The area is favorable because of its recharge rate, depth to water and because it is a ground water source which is easier to treat. To get the water to McPherson and make it available for consumption, the BPU would need to install 20 miles of water transmission lines and a treatment plant capable of processing three million gallons per day. Total projected cost is $27,620,000. The BPU plans to have a series of meetings with various McPherson stakeholders before making a final decision.
